BrDelights Presents...

Fellini is probably among the most influential bands formed in Brazil on the early 80’s… disconcerting lyrics, post-punk elements (influences taken of Gang of Four, Stranglers, the Fall, Joy Division) with British rock , Brazilian rythms and a lot of sense of humour made them a respected name in Sao Paulo and elsewhere.

Between 85 and 87 They released 3 influential and yet technically primitive , extremely sophisticated albums.O Adeus de fellini (85), Fellini so vive 2 vezes (86) e 3 Lugares diferentes were recorded in precarious conditions by Cadao Volpato (voice) and Thomas Pappon (instruments).

They had been playing in the fertile São Paulo post-punk scene since 1984. They weren’t as well known as other Brazilian bands, they were never executed on the radio and didn’t appear on TV either.

Their albuns were not on the shops, and out of Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro would be hard to find them. But Some people found them out….

Fellini had a desisive influence on bands from Recife, Pernambuco like Chico Science & Nacao Zumbi and Mundo Livre SA . Nacao Zumbi covered “Crianca de Domingo” from, some demo (I believe) that were taken to Recife by Stela Campos, Singer, Composer from Sao Paulo.

This music was essencially important for Chico Science and Fred Zero 04 (from Mundo Livre sa)…who were to create another important momentum in brazilian rock scene later on. Fellini technical approach to music is an apart delight…in a absence of a trumpet…why not invent the “mouth trumpet” witch was basically blow the “notes” into your hand making “trumpet souds”.

Fellini had a short career…Cadão would follow with the group Funziona Senza Vapore with Stela Campos and Thomas, later on, living in London, would form with his wife the duo The Gilbertos, and released the album “Os Eurosambas 1992-1998”.

Is it Rock?...is it samba?...Is it bossa nova…Is it Experimental music?...It is all that…it has fantastically ironic lyrics making a complex and original mixture.

We can say that Fellini have influenced every other band in the Brazilian scene since early 80s).The track "Outro Endereço, Outras Vidas" was played on the English DJ John Peel's show. And you can listen to this on the album Fellini so vive 2 vezes…among other curiosities.

The Band got together in 1999 for some shows and released the album Amanha ‘e tarde.
